Janet’s journey to Madeleines is as unique as the food we serve. After a distinguished career as a senior nursing sister, she changed paths at 40 to follow her passion for food, training under the esteemed Christina Martin before sharing her creations at local markets. In 2015 she opened Madeleines Hillcrest, later expanding with Madeleines Kloof in 2024. Both outlets reflect her belief that good food should be wholesome, delicious, and made with integrity.
Known for her creativity, attention to detail, and boundless energy, Janet inspires the team with her warmth and determination — qualities that remain at the heart of Madeleines today. Married to Richard, her biggest supporter and proudest champion, Janet continues to build Madeleines as a place where food connects people, and community always comes first.

We ordered a special cake for my gran’s 80th, and it completely exceeded our expectations! It looked magnificent and tasted even better – moist, flavourful, and beautifully decorated in accordance to our colour theme. It was a massive hit! Thank you, Madeleines, for making such a milestone birthday feel extra special.
Thembi – Hillcrest
My husband’s a total carnivore, and I’m vegetarian – so finding meals we both enjoy can be tricky. The Beef Stroganoff is his absolute favourite, tender, rich, and full of flavour. I go for the Melanzane, and honestly, it’s the best I’ve ever had – cheesy, saucy, and perfectly balanced. We always keep a few in the freezer for those lazy nights when we want something homemade and delicious!
Charmaine – Winston Park
I had the Eggs Benedict on potato rosti for breakfast at the Madeleines Hillcrest – wow, it was outstanding! The rosti was crisp on the outside, soft inside, and the hollandaise sauce was silky and full of flavour. You can tell everything is made with care. It’s my new go-to brunch spot!
